Old Albatross

This site is dedicated to waterfalls, mountains, an old aviators memories, with lots of poetic liberties, some just plain made up, and interesting places to visit.

I did come back!2285 viewsI don't like top down photos but, this one shows my destination, the rock where the water disappears.

My first visit was a flop. This time, with a little more experience
(how much more experience does a 74 yr old goat need) I made it to the top.

Broken Heart2239 viewsMaybe this falls should be renamed "Broken Heart". The pothole forms the shape of a heart, broken by the creek entering and leaving it.00000

Water Cave2188 viewsSteele Creek goes under this big rock, forming a foam whirlpool.

Views from this vantage point are the reason I give Steel reek Falls a *** rating. Note the rope on the rock. This is a very slick area so use the rope to hold on.

This little area can definitely clean your family gene pool.

Bottom Of Bowl2144 viewsThe bottom of South Harpers Creek Falls takes on the appearance of a giant stone bowl with one side torn out by nature.

Due to the steep descent to this area I rated it a *** (3) in difficulty. Not a place to go in wet weather.

Top falls at South Harpers Creek2136 viewsDue to brilliant Sun these photos were difficult, even using filters.

I plan a return trip with better skies.

ViewFrom Bottom2080 viewsFrom the bottom of lower falls. Falls comes in from top right of photo and does a sharp left turn to escape down the gorge.

Note the "cave" in center of photo.

From this point to top of rock wall measures 270 ft.

Bright Sunnny day at Chestnut2138 viewsOne of those rare days of 70^ F, bright Sun and Crew Members Lou, Bol'Dar, RAT, spent on snake infested Chestnut Cove Branch Falls.

Not a good day for photography but, with this crew, who cares, there will be cloudy days for cameras but, not Oldalbatross.

Snake lide2187 viewsAfter being flushed by RAT and Bol'dar, old Sneaky here, took an uncontrolled slide down to the bottom of Chestnut Falls, where I was, unfortunately, located.

After a short dance session both Oldalbatross and snake were fine.
