Rock Creek South Branch (1)1649 viewsThis falls can be tricky to find. If you are going to the upper falls, above the foot bridge, keep watching for a downed tree that has been cut about waist level. Turn right just after the tree on the faint trail. Cross the creek and you should see an old brick fire pit. Keep going up the adjacent small creek. This is the South Branch, not the original creekk you started out on.

To find South Branch Falls continue less than 0.2 miles to the falls.

Odd1647 viewsRock Island should probably be listed under odd stuff.

When a dam was built on a "U" turn in the river and the water backed up, due to limestone between the curves that form the "U" water started to seep through to emerge in the wall of the now lower river.

The following photos are the results. Note the water comes out of the cliff.

Near Cookeville, TN and numerous other falls.

Mile marker 5.8 1647 viewsEnd of the trail at mile marker 5.8, punctuated by an oncoming train. This is where the spur from Coeburn, Va. connected to the Clinchfield, now the CSX. railroad.
